Job loss announcement another blow for Ringaskiddy
Following the announcement that 100 jobs are to be lost at pharmaceutical company Glaxosmithkline in Cork, Green Party Senator Dan Boyle said:
"On a day that the people of Ringaskiddy and surrounding areas have been hit by the news that Indaver seek to locate not one, but two incinerators in their community, the announcement of job losses at Glaxosmithkline will add to disquiet in the area.
"Following recent job loss announcements by long established pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizers, the Glaxosmithkline decision introduces a note of uncertainty that the Government must respond to in a quick and targeted fashion.
"The priority for Ringaskiddy has to be to protect and add to existing jobs and not to turn the area into some type of sacrifice zone where incinerators rather than working factories predominate."

Indaver Planning Another Act of Gross Arrogance Says Boyle
Green Party Senator Dan Boyle has said the making of a planning application
for a domestic waste incinerator for Ringaskiddy by the Indaver company,
another act of gross arrogance by the company.
"With court decisions still pending, a review of waste management practice
ongoing, and legislation due soon that would undermine the economic viability
of incineration; it is clear that Indaver is trying to limbo dance an
incineration into being,".
"Mass burn incineration as a combustion technology is incompatible with both
reducing waste and combatting climate change. I will continue to strongly
oppose its introduction,".

Greens welcome establishment of Commission on Taxation
Green Party Finance spokesperson Senator Dan Boyle has welcomed the establishment of the Commission on Taxation today and said its formation will ensure that future taxes are structured in a fair and equitable way.
Senator Boyle said: "The establishment of this commission, which had been proposed by the Green Party, will be an important element in determining future tax policy in this country. It will ensure that future taxes can be structured in ways that are effective, efficient and equitable.
"The composition of the commission, under the Chairmanship of Frank Daly, along with representatives of the social partners and a number of experts in the field of taxation gives confidence that this commission will produce a report that the Government will take seriously.
"The innovative means of funding local government and the emphasis on environmental tax reform, in particular the need to introduce a carbon levy, will address areas that have been delayed for far too long.
"The reporting time of the commission in September 2009 and the ability to produce interim reports before that, will also mean that several new tax reform measures can be put in place in time for next years and subsequent budgets."
